Silence is Complicity

Do you remember after 9/11 we were all told: If you see something, say something?

There was a national movement sparked by overwhelming patriotism prompting everyone’s commitment to protect our country.

What happened?

There is a terrifying large group of people who continue to believe that the 2020 election was stolen. Even after we witnessed the violence unfold on national tv in real time…even after Capitol Police were brutalized and even murdered…even after hours and hours of evidence laid out in Congressional hearings revealing just how close we were to getting overthrown by a coup - how is it that we’re still here, divided?

I have an even bigger question: WHY ARE THERE SO FEW PEOPLE IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WHO WILL STAND UP TO THE CRUELTY AND DISHONESTY BY THE CURRENT TAKEOVER OF THE GOP?

It disappoints me endlessly to hear the deafening silence.

It wholeheartedly breaks me to witness grown adults look down at their feet.

There have been far too many moments in history when silence was the response to injustice, and the world became a darker place.

We find ourselves on the brink of that precipice.

And unfortunately, when I look around the room to the leaders we’ve elected - and yes, I’m looking at you Rep. Mike Dodson - I am dumbfounded by your silence.

Silence is complicity.

When you refuse to say something when you see something, then you become a part of the problem.

When you refuse to denounce dishonesty, when you refuse to denounce cruelty, when you refuse to use your voice, then you become complicit in the violence.

And I’m not okay with that.

We deserve better.
